A further 10-minute walk through quiet residential streets leads to the magnificent, state-of-the-art marina – the first stop in the Mediterranean – and a quick trip on a free water taxi will take you to Sotogrande’s main square and its relaxed cafes, bars and restaurants (also accessible by road).

Ribera del Emperador itself is a desirable gated complex that is well-maintained and extremely peaceful – not a building site in sight. It is situated near the heart of the luxurious Sotogrande development – a beautiful 2,000 hectare purpose-built estate, which offers everything from shops and banks to an international school and kids’ clubs as well as a huge variety of sports and recreational activities. These include horse-riding at the equestrian centre, polo at the Santa Maria Polo Club (host to many international tournaments), sailing, fishing, kayaking, scuba diving and cycling.

For golfers, it is a true paradise. The famous championship courses of Valderrama and Sotogrande Real Club de Golf, the Almenara and the nine-hole La Canada courses are situated within Sotogrande itself while three further golf courses including San Roque, the Spanish headquarters of the PGA European Tour, lie within a 10-minute drive.
