Our white village of Vva. del Trabuco is very traditional and offers many tapas bars, shops, banks, restaurants, weekly market, in fact something to suit every pocket and taste. Not forgetting the stunning countryside to explore, the scenery is breathtakingly beautiful so don´t forget to bring your camera! We have many fiestas, starting at Easter, the most prominent in September around the 12th, 5 days non-stop eating, dancing, fair ground rides, fun & games for the children, horse parades, be prepared they go on long into the early hours! Trabuco offers the real Spain, a thriving culture, fine wines and of course Flamenco at it´s best!
The village is just 4km from our home and a lovely walk in spring or autumn when its not too hot! Well worth a visit is the historical town of Antequera 25 mins away (population 48,000) with Moorish architecture, traditional restaurants, churches, monasteries, tapas bars, chic street cafes and endless inexpensive boutiques! Now boasting the high speed train (AVE) on the outskirts of Antequera, you will travel in style and it´s never late or your money back! A trip to Madrid is just 2 hours! For Golf Lovers the unique 18 hole Golf Course in Antequera, overlooking this beautiful historic town. Superb inexpensive rates, with a Club House/Restaurant (formal wear) and a well equipped Golf Shop - details of rates for hire can be found at
We are ideally placed for access to all major cities. Granada is 50 mins. and boasts the stunning Alhambra Palace, the old Arab Quarter with its endless winding streets, shoes, silk scarves, beaded cushions, all at bargain prices! Seville is 1 hr. 30, Cordoba 1 hr, Cadiz is just under 2 hours, Historical Ronda and the amazing Gorge is 1hr 30 and not forgetting our own beautiful city of Malaga with it´s designer shops, art galleries, a shoppers paradise for the ladies if you want to spoil them - a mere 35 min. drive.
We have many contacts for local outdoor pursuits eg. Horse-riding (5 mins. away), pro-tennis coaching (details on request), bird watching, hiking, cycling, fishing, para-gliding and off road biking. Something for young and old!
A stunning new traditional restaurant Meson Ventorro is just a 2 min. walk from the centre of village and is sure to please, as a succulent steak will cost around €10.95!
If you find yourself in Trabuco mid-day and wanting to try a tasty tapas, Venta Talillas (5 min. walk from centre of village) is ideal as it opens from 11:00am to midnight Monday-Sunday and is extremely cheap, or the chic Plaza Cafe situated of course in the main Plaza with wonderful views of the town & countryside.... ideal for families, as it opens all day and offers food from 8:00 am to midnight in the high season.
For a cultural day out then Málaga won´t disappoint with its Moorish castle which was rebuilt and is today a traditional Parador (State Hotel) with superb panoramic views. During the 19th century, Málaga was a popular winter resort for the wealthy, famed for its elegance and sophistication. The impressive park on Calle Alameda dates back to this era and is recognised as being one of the most celebrated botanical collections in Europe. During the winter, open air concerts are held there every Sunday.
Pablo Picasso is the cities famous son (not counting Antonio Banderas) and there are several galleries showing his work, including the 16thC Museum of Fine Arts, adjacent to the Cathedral.
The nearest main beach is Benalmadena/Torremolinos or Málaga city, reachable in just 35 mins. The beaches are safe, clean and have play areas for children. Lake Viñuela towards Velez Málaga is just 35 mins. and boasts a child friendly sandy beach, wonderful for sailing enthusiasts, set amidst stunning scenery. There are superb local restaurants overlooking the lake, the views are amazing.
On the coast, 35 mins. away are several water parks, Waterworld in Mijas & Aqualand in Torremolinos, or the enormous Tivoli Fun Park in Benalmadena with restaurants, scary rides, go-karting, something for everyone of all ages.
We recommend that all our guests hire a car, as we are a short drive into the countryside from the village. There is transport to Málaga 3-4 times daily by coach, also to Antequera, Archidona, and Vva. del Rosario our neighbouring village. Santander would be the nearest ferry link if you decide to drive through Spain.
Should you decide to visit Morocco, which is 9 miles from Spain, a ferry from Ceuta - Algeciras leaves every hour and is approx. 75 euros return. An unforgettable culture, beautiful architecture and many tempting dishes to savour if you love spicy food.
Had too much sunbathing, then take a trip to tax free Gibraltar (via motorway) 2 hours - watch out for the monkeys!!
Ample supplies of English Tea, coffee, sugar, cooking oils and condiments etc. are provided free of charge and a complimentary bottle of wine and fresh fruit. There are many well stocked supermarkets in the village, daily meat and fish markets with excellent local produce. Larger supermarkets a mere 15 min. drive.
