Molino Gaitan is beautifully situated on the banks of one of the cleanest and unspoilt rivers in Andalusia, the Rio Hozgarganta, which flows through the Cork Forest Nature Park - Los Alcornocales.
From there one can walk in about 15 minutes to the village of Jimena de la Frontera or direct into the gorge and surrounding hills. There are wonderful river pools to swim in, one of the longest is adjacent to the Mill.
This building is for nature lovers, for hiking, rock climbing and those who enjoy observing birds and the rich variety of flora and fauna which abounds in this area. Excellent also for people interested in drawing, watercolours, or photography. Consisting of two storeys the Mill has been only minimally modernized, owing to it's antiquity.
On the ground floor there is a small shower and toilet unit, kitchen, dining, area and reclining alcove cool and atmospheric, dating from the original construction probably 1600 and can also be used as a bedroom alcove. Ascending the open staircase one reaches the double bedroom and access to the terrace with table and chairs. With a delightful and intimate panorama of the river, it's perfect for having breakfast or late evening suppers listening to the sounds of the valley. Outside, the walled garden and patio offers a shady retreat from the afternoon sun.
The Mill is supplied with Solar electricity, mains water, gas, hot water, cooking. Due to the thick stonewalls, there is no WiFi, one can only get a signal in our garden. Private parking is 60 mts away adjacent to our house Casa Gaitan. The Mill has a small library of books, maps, Spanish music and films but no TV or digital equipment. We offer a washing machine service from our house whenever required.
The village of Jimena offers bars, restaurants, supermarket, medical center, train station
north to Ronda, Malaga, Granada and south to Algeciras and many remains of past cultures, incl. pre-historic, Phoenician, Roman and Arabic/Moorish.
Jimena de la Frontera can be reached from Malaga, Jerez or Gibraltar airports, one can connect from Malaga City to the village by train or bus and from Gibraltar/ La Linea by bus or taxi.
We can also offer a non-driving holiday with pick up, departure, shopping service and guided tours for reasonable rates.
Gaitan Mill sleeps 3 people and is not suitable for children under 10 years.
