Sils

Sils is a town and municipality in the Girona Province of Catalonia, located in a particularly peaceful and beautiful region in Catalonia. The pretty rural town has a rich cultural heritage and is renowned for its delicious cuisine.

Sils is situated in an area occupied, by the most part, the old Sils Lake, which was desiccated in the 19th century. The local government is currently undertaking a project to restore part of the lake and natural vegetation.

The town is surrounded by a wonderful natural landscape, where visitors can enjoy walking, hiking or cycling along the many routes throughout the region.


About town
The charming town of Sils offers ample amenities for guests, including supermarkets, shops, bars and restaurants.

There are several cultural attractions and monuments worth visiting, including a marvellous automobile museum, the Salvador Claret Automobile Collection.

Places to visit
Sils is around 20 kilometres inland from beaches and seaside towns of the Costa Blanca. The nearest resorts being Lloret de Mar and Tossa de Mar.

A trip is highly recommended to the beautiful and historic city of Girona, which is just 25 minutes drive away.

Cuisine
The region of Girona is famous for its rich and varied cuisine, which incorporates the many delicacies from sea and land that are abundant in the region: fresh fish, shellfish, meat and poultry, local wild mushrooms that can be picked throughout the year and delicious organic fruits and vegetables. Specialities of Girona include dishes such as rich goose with pears and the wonderful Gamba Roja de Palamós.

The local organic farms yield tomatoes, aubergines, onions, courgettes and peppers of excellent quality that constitute the essential elements of many dishes.


Climate
Sils enjoys long pleasantly hot, dry summers. Winter temperatures are cool but pleasant.
