Vic

Vic is the capital of the region of Osona in the province of Barcelona, the town is located on the banks of the Meder river, in the vicinity of the impressive Sau reservoir.

A small town situated on the plain of Plane del Vic.
Set among lush green hills, you can enjoy the authentic small town Spanish lifestyle whilst being only 75 kilometres distance to the big city life of Barcelona, or the majestic beauty of the highest peaks of the Pyrenees.

La Plana de Vic is all surrounded by mountains; to the north are the mountains of the county of Ripollès and the county of Garrotxa. To the east the mountainous area of Les Guilleries, to the southeast the Massif of Montseny and to the west the mountainous areas of Moianès and Lluçanès.

The valley is enclosed by a circle of mountainous systems outlined by the peaks of Bellmunt, Collsacabra, Guilleries, Matagalls, Tagamanent, the Bertí's Crags, Collsuspina, Gurb, El Grau and Orís, and the Pyrenean spurs of Montesquiu and Besora.

Your holiday home will provide an excellent base for experiencing the diversity of Catalonia. Vic is located approximately 55 minutes cross country from Girona airport.

Car Hire
To fully enjoy your holiday in this beautiful region of Catalonia, it is recommended that you hire a car.

Culture

In Vic you can enjoy monuments and attractions including the Museu Episcopal, which displays a rich collection of Romanesque art. The Gallery Sala del Romanico, with its outstanding group of alter fonts and the Gothic Gallerie Salas del Gotico’s collection of alter pieces. All three galleries are awarded 3 stars (highly recommended) by the Michelin Guide.

Market
On Tuesdays and Saturdays you will find a large popular and lively market on Placa Major.

Leisure & recreation
Take a guided tour through the historical quarter of Vic and then enjoy the delicious local cuisine in central square where you will find some delightful café terraces to watch the world go by. The square is always full of genuine Catalan rural atmosphere.

The possibilities for activities in the area are numerous, for adults as well as for children. Riding, hiking, hot air ballooning, cycling, mountaineering and tennis, to name but a few.

Beaches
Vic is an inland town; a trip to the beach is at least a day trip, with the closest coastal resorts being around 100 kilometres drive to the east.

Golf
There are two excellent and challenging golf courses just a few minutes drive to the south of Vic.

Cuisine
The gastronomy of Catalonia is rich and varied. Principally it is the typical Mediterranean diet of fish and seafood with fresh vegetables, olives and olive oil rice and pasta.

We recommend that visitors try some traditional Catalan dishes whilst on holiday, especially delicious are

Escudella I Carn D'olla, vegetable broth with pork, veal and chicken. Pa Amb Tomàquet,

simply rustic bread, can be toasted, rubbed with tomato pulp and dressed with oil and salt; these delcious breakfast can also be served with ham, sausage or tortilla.

Coca is a very thin dough baked with onions, peppers and other vegetables served with and meats, or fish (especially sardines).

Climate
Vic enjoys long hot summers, and a fairly dry year. Winters can be quite cold, sometimes with snow.
