After a stunning drive up into the mountains, we arrived in Órgiva, to be met by Sergio, who took us up to the house to show us round and explain how everything worked. This traditional house is fantastic, with plenty of space and all mod cons. The gardens are a joy, full of birdsong, with different areas to be enjoyed at different times of the day, whether eating, having a nap or relaxing around the pool, with the smell of jasmine and fresh fruit from the orange and lemon trees in the garden to quench your thirst. The mountain views from the front door are spectacular, with the sleeping giant in full view. At night the garden is lit, giving added romance, whilst sipping aperitifs by the pool. Town is within easy walking distance to shops, cafés and restaurants. Within a short drive are the wonderful Órgiva Tea Gardens, with amazing home made cakes, and lemonade, as well as a great selection of teas, and with the added bonus of an amazing classical Spanish guitarist, who plays every Wednesday. Entrance at €3 per head is a bargain. Within 20 minutes drive are the beautiful white villages of La Alpujarra, with views of the still snow-capped mountains. Just 30 minutes drive through spectacular countryside, with an amazing, and very photogenic reservoir en route, brings you to the seafront and the beaches and restaurants of Salobreña, with the old Arabic fortress to visit in the old town, with its panoramic views and free parking! We didn’t even get to see the spa town of Lanjarón, so will be back for more. Hasta la vista Casa de Almendras!!

We booked this property for it's great location with the intention of walking in the Sierra Nevada. The accommodation exceeded our expectations - the rooms were spacious, clean, decorated and equipped to a high standard. It was clear the owners had put a lot of thought into arrangements for our arrival which were very welcoming and gratefully received. The town, with a wide range of bars, restaurants and shops, was just a ten minute walk down a quiet track making the car non essential. All the local bars in town made us really welcome, despite our spanish being very poor, serving delicious tapas with every round of drinks and providing very helpful information about local specialities. The view from the propery, surrounding scenary and walks were absolutely stunning, within easy reach and not too challenging. Standing in 28° looking. Up a snow covered mountain tops will always stay with us. However, nothing could possibly have prepared us for the garden - it was so beautiful, with little zones for sun, shade, peace and privacy, full of beautiful fruit trees and abundant wildlife - one day we even had a tortoise turn up on that patio ! We felt very spoilt and so very comfortable and relaxed. Thank you so much to the owners - we cannot wait to return.

We really enjoyed our stay at Casa del Almendras: Beautiful house, huge lovely garden with orange trees and stunning view of the mountains, peaceful rural setting (despite the dogs barking all night long), laid-back unique atmosphere of Orgiva on the one hand and lots of good restaurants in walking distance and possibility for day trips to Granada, hiking in the Sierra Nevada and trips to the beach on the other hand. For us, an ideal combination of relaxing and "action". The owners are very friendly, responsive and provided a lot of good recommendations. We fell in love with that spot and will be back again!

Pleased you had such a lovely time at the house and enjoyed exploring all the area has to offer. Sorry to hear that you were disturbed at night by dogs. We’ve never been unfortunate to suffer this ourselves on our stays at the house but Spanish farmers all have dogs and our valley is no exception. A simple remedy to cut out any country-side noise at night (& dawn) is to shut the bedroom window and the thick wooden shutters and use the fans and air-con provided. It works brilliantly for crowing cockerels! Best wishes, Vivianne
